TV Show Recommendation: Bob’s Burgers by Ria Purohit

 TV Show Recommendation: Bob’s Burgers

I love consuming all forms of TV shows and movies, just to see what’s out there in the vast world of entertainment. I often come across shows that use the same formula, shows that have the same archetypes, and stories that are relatively similar, mainly in sitcoms. I don’t mind the repetitive formula sometimes; it’s comforting to know what’s going to happen next and it’s something nice to put on while I am doing my work. An example of that show would be Bob’s Burgers, and it’s become close to my heart in the few months I have been binging it.

Bob’s Burgers is an animated sitcom about the Belchers family and their struggling burger restaurant. Bob Belcher, the owner of the restaurant and father, is an exasperated yet loving person towards his family and friends, and it’s great to see good cartoon fathers being portrayed when many cartoons do not do so. Linda Belcher, the mother, is a passionate, caring, vibrant person; every time she’s on screen you never know what she’ll end up doing. Bob and Linda’s relationship is a wonderful portrayal of “opposites attract”, and throughout the series their relationship remains strong as ever. Tina Belcher, the eldest child, is a soft spoken teenager, but is determined to pursue anything she wants to. Gene Belcher, the second oldest, is a vibrant, showy, musical person, who is enthusiastic about everything he does. Finally, there’s Louise Belcher, the youngest, who is intelligent and uses her people skills to get what she wants. This family, though all different, loves each other fiercely throughout all the episodes of the show, and it gets heartwarming to see every time.

I love seeing wholesome relationships being portrayed. I like seeing people work through their problems thoroughly and still have that love present for each other. All the conflicts in the show are external to the family, meaning that there doesn’t seem to be any deep seeded issues within the family that come up to the surface for deeply uncomfortable arguments to watch. I like seeing the shenanigans the children get up to, and the circumstances the parents get into. Their characters are all intertwined with one another; you cannot describe the Belchers without describing the immense love they have for each other. Also, it’s a great show to have on in the background when I’m doing some homework or projects. The low-stakes, friendly atmosphere of the show provides me comfort while I do something stressful; it makes doing my work much more fun.

So, if you have any free time, or want something to put on in the background to feel less lonely when doing your work, put on Bob’s Burgers! You don’t need to watch every episode to understand the show, but it’s your choice. Hopefully you take my recommendation into consideration and check out the show!
