Why should we have hobbies in our lives?
Everyone must have at least one thing they care about other than their family and friends. It can be something that urges them to bring out their talent to society, which can be totally out of their comfort zone. There are many activities out there in the world that are waiting for anyone to choose them and create a lifelong bonding with them. The hobbies that you choose to do throughout your life make you more appealing in front of others, giving you the opportunity to erase any sort of vulnerability. Also, cultivating a new hobby can make you create a personal connection with others, and improve your social life through bonding. Not everyone is social and able to make new friends, especially during this pandemic, and through clubs/new hobbies, they can get more closer with others that have the same interests. While having hobbies gives you a new perspective to look at, you also gain more knowledge, which can definitely help you in the future. Hobbies give you a sense of purpose for what you want to pursue in your life, and it increases your self-esteem and confidence. Therefore, hobbies can actually change your life into something that you will always remember, cherish, and be thankful for in the present and future.
Sometimes hobbies can also be a stress-buster. It’s common for people to be stressed, especially teenagers, and hobbies can help you get out of that stress. For example, someone can choose to draw during their free time after many hours of studying for a test. When people enjoy doing their hobby for a few hours every week, it helps them prevent the risk of depression because they keep themselves engaged. According to Dr. Harpreet Kaur, who is a licensed clinical psychologist for kids/teens, “when kids are too overscheduled and stressed, they’re more prone to anxiety, irritability, tiredness and destructibility,” but this can be prevented if schools promote a better balance between work and play.” Stress has been a huge problem, and taking just a few hours off doing something you love (drawing, cooking, etc.) can help you relax. When you’re focusing on your hobby instead, you’re not exactly wasting your time; you’re using your time wisely to have fun as well as to calm down from stress. Boredom is something that occurs to everyone, and having hobbies such as riding bikes, gardening, drawing, etc. can make you active and occupied. In conclusion, hobbies are very important since we can get more knowledge that will be helpful for us and for others, and so we can manage our stress.
