Movie Review for the movie, Luca
I would recommend the Disney movie, Luca, for anyone to watch because it gave a good message about friendship and how you can succeed with embracing your differences and your family. Luca is a young sea monster who lives in the ocean, and his parents don’t allow him to go to the surface since they’re afraid that humans will harm them. One day, Luca disobeys his parents and he meets another sea monster, Alberto, and they become best friends. After Luca’s parents find out that he disobeyed him, they plan to send him to live with his uncle Ugo. After learning this, Luca escapes with Alberto to Portorosso to travel the world with an actual vespa. The boys encounter a girl named Guilia who helps them escape the bully, Ercole, and all three of them make a team for the triathlon (swimming, biking, pasta-eating) to get money for a real vespa. While Luca and his friends are getting ready for the triathlon, Luca’s parents come to Portorosso to find him. After being on land, Luca dreams of going to school instead of traveling the world with Alberto, and he starts ignoring Alberto’s advice, and slowly their friendship drifts off. In the end, it’s up to Luca to embrace his differences to reach his dreams and understand the importance of his friendship with Alberto. I personally really enjoyed the movie because it was really funny and it showed how important friendship can be. Each person has their own troubles, and friendship can actually help them figure out how to make things right. While the movie is fictional, some of the scenes are actually allusions to past experiences in our society. For example, the sea monsters didn’t accept humans and vice-versa, and this is an allusion to how people didn’t accept other races/ethnicities for a while. Also, it brings a lot of Italian culture into the storyline and I really liked that because I haven’t gotten the chance to experience Italian culture in movies. This movie is definitely a must-watch with your family and friends since you can bond over your favorite italian food, the silly things the characters do, etc. I would rate this movie an 8/10.
