Is Homework Helping or Hurting? by Parnika Thakare

Is Homework Helping or Hurting?

I get that homework is supposed to help us understand things better and help us for practice but honestly, sometimes it just feels like way too much. After spending the whole day at school and coming late from my badminton practice, I come home already mentally drained — and then there’s still hours of homework waiting. It’s really hard to actually focus or care when you’re that tired. Most of the time, I’m just trying to finish it, not actually learn from it.

Sometimes homework is helpful, for sure — like quick reviews or practice problems. But when every teacher piles it on at once, it gets overwhelming fast. It cuts into time I could use to practice badminton,do fitness or relax, hang out with my family, or even just sleep. And when I’m constantly stressed about deadlines, it doesn’t feel like learning at all.It feels like survival.

I think homework should be more balanced and meaningful. Not just busywork, but stuff that is actually going to help us without taking over our personal lives. School shouldn’t follow us home in such a heavy way. We’re already under a lot of pressure — adding hours of homework every night isn’t really helping but affecting mentally and physically to many students.
